Former New York Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno said he now supports legalizing marriage equality in New York, a change of heart that could influence the measure’s chances in the state Senate. "As a Republican, I believe in personal freedom," Bruno said in a written statement. “This is America and we have inalienable rights. Let everyone decide how to pursue their own happiness. I understand that this issue stirs great passion in many people . . . However, my instincts tell me that same-sex couples who wish to enter into the union of marriage are just like the rest of us and they ought to be free to enter into it.” [Link]
