Freedom to Marry, GLAAD, MAP release new resource for marriage allies

Today Freedom to Marry, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), and the Movement Advancement Project (MAP) released a new publication for the community and allies of marriage, titled An Ally’s Guide to Talking About Marriage for Same-Sex Couples. The resource can be found here.

Freedom to Marry co-authored the guide, which is meant to offer conversation suggestions and tools for allies to help others move from being undecided towards being supportive of the freedom to marry. The guide builds upon the surge in national support for the freedom to marry over the past few years, which has occurred widely due to public and private conversations that are taking place about marriage for same-sex couples.

The resource suggests emphasizing the values of marriage that everyone shares, helping people understand how exclusion from marriage harms same-sex couples, and reminding people of their shared beliefs in treating others fairly and without judgment.
