Freedom to Marry Receives Global Action Award
February 18, 2011
Tonight Freedom to Marry is being honored with a Global Action Award, and Freedom to Marry’s Marc Solomon will give the keynote speech at the inaugural Global Action Forum and Awards Gala in Los Angeles.
The Forum was started to help build bottom-up campaigns that connect emotionally with people and communities. It's a gathering for corporate leaders, celebrities, and representatives of the non-profit organizations to share insights and prepare to take action on a wide range of urgent social issues.
“It is a great honor to be included among some of the most innovative not-for-profits in the country, including Save the Children and CARE,” said Solomon. “Freedom to Marry is excited to take part in the Global Action Forum – this is an important opportunity to empower those who are looking to support these critical philanthropies but don’t yet know how they can get engaged.”
Solomon’s keynote address will detail Freedom to Marry’s strategy for winning marriage for same-sex couples nationwide – the Roadmap to Victory. The plan draws on the history of other social justice movements in the United States and hinges on a three-track approach: including securing marriage in more states, growing the existing majority support across the nation, and ending federal marriage discrimination.
