Freedom to Marry working with marriage advocates in Washington

Freedom to Marry staff just returned from Seattle, Washington where we met with key members of Equal Rights Washington and the Washington state legislature about potential plans to win marriage in 2012.

Several members of the LGBT Legislative Caucus, including Senator Ed Murray and Rep. Jamie Pedersen, who led efforts to pass comprehensive domestic partnership legislation, are now talking with colleagues and supportive organizations about whether or not to introduce a marriage bill during the 2012 legislative session.  If passed legislatively, marriage for same-sex couples is likely to be placed on the ballot for a statewide vote during the November 2012 election. Over time, many Washington voters have increased their support for marriage for same-sex couples, because they have had personal conversations with gay and lesbian couples. So it's never too soon to get involved in talking with voters about why marriage matters now!

To get involved now, join Equal Rights Washington's volunteer nights held every Tuesday and Wednesday. For more info, go to: http://www.equalrightswashington.org/?page_id=181
