Maine became the latest New England state to take up the issue of marriage equality Wednesday, when thousands of Mainers emotionally told lawmakers why the state should allow it. About 4,000 people packed into the Augusta Civic Center, snarling traffic throughout the capital city, for a daylong public hearing. “The bill is fair; this bill’s time has come,” said Senator Dennis S. Damon, a Democrat who is the bill’s sponsor. “It recognizes the worth and dignity of every man and every woman among us.” (Link)
