Major NY business leaders release open letter supporting the freedom to marry
April 29, 2011

Today, major business leaders in New York state released an open letter calling on state legislators to pass the marriage bill once and for all. The letter, which is signed by nearly two dozen prominent executives from companies like Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, states that extending marriage to gay and lesbian couples would enable New York business to recruit the most qualified applicants.
Via the New York Times, the letter reads, in part:
“In an age where talent determines the economic winners, great states and cities must demonstrate a commitment to creating an open, healthy and equitable environment in which to live and work,” the letter reads. “As other states, cities and countries across the world extend marriage rights regardless of sexual orientation, it will become increasingly difficult to recruit the best talent if New York cannot offer the same benefits and protection.”
This major announcement comes after a momentous couple of weeks for marriage in New York, including the formation of the New Yorkers United for Marriage coalition.
