Minnesotans United for All Families release moving new video

This week, Minnesotans United for All Families, the campaign to defeat an anti-gay constitutional amendment that would limit the freedom to marry in Minnesota, released "Freedom," a new video illustrating why the freedom to marry is important for same-sex couples. The brief video follows the story of Andrew C. Wilfahrt, who was killed in Afghanistan while serving as a Corporal in the United States Army. Rep. John Kriesel, a Republican in the Minnesota House of Representatives, speaks in the video about Cpl. Wilfahrt, saying, "I cannot look at this family and look at this picture and say, 'You know what, Corporal? You were good enough to fight for your country and give your life for people's happiness and freedom, but you were not good enough to marry the person you love.'"

In the November 2012 election, Minnesota voters will rule on a proposed constitutional amendment that would ban the freedom to marry for same-sex couples. The video asks Minnesotans to vote no on the amendment, asking them to uphold the Founding Fathers' promise of freedom for every American.

In the video, Rep. Kriesel speaks broadly about doing what is right and fair. "It is oftentimes hard to stand up against a group of people who you may be close with or stand up for something that may not be popular," he says. "But it's the right thing to do, and I'm asking you to stand with me. Stand up for freedom."

This week, a new poll from SurveyUSA found that a majority of Minnesotans support the freedom to marry for all couples. The survey asked voters in Minnesota to consider President Obama's statement from last week that same-sex couples should be able to get married - 52 percent of those surveyed said they agreed with the President and only 42 percent said they disagreed.

Freedom to Marry is one of the founding and leading members of the Minnesotans United for All Families coalition, and Minnesota is also a part of Freedom to Marry's Win More States Fund. Every single penny donated to the Win More States Fund will directly contribute to winning the freedom to marry in Minnesota and other battleground states.

Videos like "Freedom" work to better connect voters to the emotional signifiance of marriage. Watch the video and "like" the Minnesotans United for All Families Facebook page here!
