New Freedom to Marry resource: Party Principles

Just as a growing majority of Americans now support the freedom to marry, an increasing number of state and national political parties are taking positions in support of marriage for same-sex couples. From Alabama to Wyoming, dedicated local party activists are working with their party’s leadership to ensure Golden Rule fairness is included in official party platforms, resolutions and documents.

At the national level, several parties have opposed the so-called "Defense of Marriage Act" and voiced support for same-sex couples and their families.

Political parties across the political spectrum rely on local and grassroots involvement and support. More and more, they are hearing from their members who want to support their friends, family and neighbors by taking an official position on marriage for same-sex couples.

We’ve created a new resource called Party Principles so you can see where your political parties stand.

You can help increase support for marriage among political parties by having conversations with party leadership about why marriage matters to gay and lesbian families.

Join our campaign to win marriage nationwide by taking the Freedom to Marry Pledge.
