Pawlenty says he’ll veto same-sex couple survivor rights bill

"Gov. Tim Pawlenty says he'll veto a bill granting surviving same-sex partners rights when one of them dies.

"Pawlenty said Wednesday that the bill given legislative approval on Wednesday duplicates other state laws allowing a person to designate someone to manage final affairs. Pawlenty criticized the bill as one that will 'stoke up a political controversy on a hotbutton issue.'

"The Senate voted 41-24 on the measure Wednesday. It adds surviving same-sex partners and other unmarried couples to the list of people who have control over what to do with the remains of their deceased partners."
