On July 20 at 10am EST, the first ever congressional hearing on the Respect for Marriage will be held before the Senate Judiciary Committee. The bill, introduced in the Senate by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and in the House of Representatives by Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), would repeal the so-called Defense of Marriage Act.

On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney announced President Obama’s support for the Respect for Marriage Act.

Evan Wolfson, Founder and President of Freedom to Marry, will be one of the two expert witnesses testifying how the exclusion from marriage hurts same-sex couples and their families.
