December 18, 2013
A new video featuring an elaborate, romantic engagement proposal is making the rounds across the Internet. The new video features Patrick Stiles, a Canadian actor who recently starred in a production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, asking his partner Mike Kennedy to marry him.
The engagement features "Love Today" by Mika, plus Patrick serenading Mike with Elton John's "Your Song" and then getting on one knee and popping the question.
Same-sex couples have had the freedom to marry in Canada since July 2005. Since becoming the fourth country to extend marriage to same-sex couples, Canada has joined the ranks of 15 other countries where same-sex couples can marry nationwide. 2013, it seems, has been the year of the flashmob engagement proposal, with dozens of videos featuring elaborate proposals taking off across the web. Most notable, perhaps, was the proposal between Spencer and Dustin Stout-Reeser, which has been viewed over 11 million times on YouTube.
