VIDEO: Evan Wolfson on how Indiana is coming together to reject HJR-3

Last week, Freedom to Marry founder and president Evan Wolfson traveled to Indiana to meet with local activists working to defeat HJR-3, the proposed constitutional amendment in Indiana that would ban same-sex couples from marrying in the state.

Evan delivered a speech at Indiana University in Bloomington as a guest of the Maurer School of Law's ACS Chapter where he spoke about HJR-3, and how moving it has been to see Hoosiers from across the state join together, united in opposition to the bill that would limit freedom in Indiana.

He said, "You have an opportunity to thwart this desperate, last-ditch effort to push Indiana away from the direction the rest of the country is going. Right now the eyes of the nation are on Indiana. Americans have been on a journey. Americans have opened their hearts and their minds. It’s our job to give people the stories, the conversation, the engagement and the time to take that journey."

Provost Lauren Robel introduced Evan's speech last week. During her introduction, she reiterated Indiana University's position on HJR-3, Earlier this year, Indiana University joined together with Freedom Indiana and dozens of other organizations and institutions in opposition to HJR-3. The IU president said, "Freedom Indiana’s goals are consistent with Indiana University’s longstanding and deeply held commitment to diversity and equality that serves as a foundation for our educational mission."
