VIDEO: Evan Wolfson talks with Andrea Mitchell on huge marriage momentum

Today, October 8, Freedom to Marry founder and president Evan Wolfson appeared on Andrea Mitchell Reports on MSNBC to speak on the freedom to marry rapidly spreading since yesterday's Supreme Court decision to deny review of 5 cases involving marriage discrimination. Evan Wolfson said:

We're one country with one constitution, and everyone should have this happiness.

We woke up Monday morning having won 19 states plus the District of Columbia, we ended monday with 26 states. We're now at 30 states, 5 more about to come on board, I believe, thanks to the 9th Circuit ruling yesterday, leaving only 15 states without the freedom to marry. [...] But of course any state without full justice and full dignity and full respect for all people is too many, and so we have to really work hard to finish the job and make this happiness available to all families in the United States.

Evan also referenced that with this week's big wins - bringing the country to, effectively, 35 states with the freedom to marry - we have hit another national milestone for the freedom to marry: In 1967, when the U.S. Supreme Court struck down laws banning interracial marriage, 16 states still had discriminatory laws in effect. Soon, in 2014, just 15 states will still be enforcing marriage discrimination for same-sex couples. It's a clearer sign than ever that it's time for national resolution on this question.
