What’s your story?

When we first asked people to sign Freedom to Marry's Open Letter to President Obama, I had no idea the response would be this phenomenal. Over 65,000 people have now signed the letter, and over 1,000 shared their thoughts about why President Obama should grant the freedom to marry to all Americans.

Families from across the country shared stories of pride and purpose -- and of the real pain and hurt that the government's exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage causes day in and day out.

Do you have a story to share?

We have decided to present these powerful, personal stories when we deliver the Open Letter to the White House. They speak from the heart about why gay couples want the freedom to marry and why allies support our cause -- and they are the most effective argument for changing the discriminatory law.

Cameron, we'd like to add your voice to what we hand to President Obama. Tell us your story now and then upload your photo -- let the president get to know you and your family:

Many different people have already spoken out. Cate S. from Brooklyn, NY signed our Open Letter to President Obama, "Because I love the same as everyone else, and my relationship deserves to be recognized."

Hundreds of responses mirrored this one from Shannon R. in Middleton, MA, who wrote, "It's the right thing to do. The human thing to do."

One of Freedom to Marry's supporters, Mark V. from Fort Wayne, IN, wrote in to tell us that fairness in marriage is intimately connected with patriotism:

"Our constitution grants every citizen the right to pursue happiness. There are few things that can bring you as much purpose and comfort as the love of a spouse. Denying anyone this basic human right is to fly in face of our founding fathers, our constitution, and most importantly our country. Marriage should be founded on two things; mutual love and commitment."
Heartfelt stories like this are what open hearts and minds, and make the case for why the president should join us. Whether gay or non-gay, partnered or single, I hope that you will submit your own story to the president. With every story and every photo, we move someone closer to support for the freedom to marry.

Please share your thoughts about why President Obama should join us now:

Thank you for adding to our momentum. Together we will bring it home.
