Young Conservatives for the Freedom to Marry celebrate marriage opinion analysis

Today, Young Conservatives for the Freedom to Marry celebrated a new meta-analysis of national polling data and electoral trends that indicates that a much broader, more diverse majority support the freedom to marry, while opposition is increasingly isolated within narrow demographic groups.

The analysis was led by Dr. Jan van Lohuizen, the lead pollster for President George W. Bush's 2004 reelection campaign, and Joel Benenson, the lead pollster for President Barack Obama's 2008 and 2012 campaigns. It analyzes recent polling and exit polls from November's election and demonstrates that 51 percent of Republicans under the age of 30 support ending the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage. The analysis also demonstrates that among Republicans who oppose the Tea Party, 47 percent support marriage for same-sex couples. Read the entire memo HERE

Young Conservatives for the Freedom to Marry, a campaign to amplify and build support for the freedom to marry among young conservatives across the United States, applauded the report, which furthers the group's message that supporting marriage aligns with conservative values of freedom, family, and limited government. Two members of the leadership committee for Young Conservatives for the Freedom to marry responded to the news.

Margaret Hoover, a Republican consultant and CNN political commentator, said:

This report shows what we are hearing from more and more young conservatives: Our generation values marriage for all committed couples -- it makes our families and our nation stronger. GOP leaders need to bring the party in line with the next generation - and the American people - to continue to lead us forward.

Tyler Deaton, Executive Director of New Hampshire Republicans for Freedom and Equality, added:

What a great affirmation of the changing tide in the Republican Party. We'll continue to push for equality, knowing that the future of our party depends on full freedom in marriage.
