Shawn Werner

Shawn Werner currently serves as the national political director for Gill Action. Prior to joining Gill, Shawn was the director of political operations for Freedom to Marry. While at Freedom to Marry, Shawn led the organization’s efforts to win marriage equality in Maryland, Rhode Island, New Jersey, and Delaware. In addition, Shawn directed the Democrats Say I Do campaign,which successfully included the freedom to marry in the 2012 Democratic National Party platform. 

Before joining Freedom to Marry, Shawn served as Political Director for the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund overseeing the success of breakthrough elections for hundreds of openly LGBT candidates including, Al McAffrey as the first openly LGBT person elected to the Oklahoma State House; Nickie Antonio, the first openly LGBT person election to the Ohio State House; and Annise Parker as the first openly LGBT mayor of a 10 ten US city, when she was elected mayor of Houston.  

Shawn resides in Denver and is an alumnus of Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA.
