Sara Ackerman

Sara Ackerman was the Digital Organizer at Freedom to Marry where she helped strategize and execute digital plans for 12 state-based marriage campaigns including drafting email, social media, blog and profile content, while implementing the latest in digital organizing trends. Sara also helped lay the groundwork for a digital roadmap in the campaign to achieve non-discrimination protections for gay and transgender people, as well as fighting back against "license to discriminate" RFRA laws, assisting in the digital strategy for eight state-based campaigns. 

Prior to joining Freedom to Marry, Sara worked at PowerThru Consulting where she managed email lists for progressive nonprofits and Democratic candidates with list sizes ranging from 20,000-500,000 subscribers. She managed social media accounts for over 10 organizations with up to 50,000 supporters. Notable accomplishments include raising $33,224 for a client's campaign to elect Ed Markey to the U.S. Senate and assisting with the digital strategy for an animal rights group that played a pivotal role in electing Bill de Blasio as New York City's newest mayor.

Sara has also worked on a number of political and issue campaigns including a state senate race in southern California and a ballot initiative in Maryland. She aworked as the Project Coordinator of the Move Your Money Project, a campaign created by Arianna Huffington of the Huffington Post, that encourages individuals and institutions to divest from "Too Big To Fail" banks and move to small community banks and credit unions.
