Democratic Party Platform Committee unanimously approves freedom to marry plank

On Saturday in Detroit, the Democratic Party Platform Committee voted unanimously to approve a plank supporting the freedom to marry in the Democratic Party's official national platform. Now, the platform will be reviewed at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC in September, where it is expected to be ratified.
‘Win More States Fund’ reaches $3 million goal for investment in state campaigns

This week, Freedom to Marry matched its initial 2012 goal of raising and investing $3 million in three battleground states where marriage will appear on the ballot in November. The organization will continue working to raise funds for these campaigns, which need more than $10 million in order to secure wins.
Federal judge agrees to hear Nevada marriage lawsuit

Today, a federal judge from the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada agreed to hear 'Sevcik v. Sandoval,' a lawsuit brought by Lambda Legal on behalf of eight same-sex couples seeking marriage licenses in Nevada.
Retired Navy captain wants to ask the Republican Party to support the freedom to marry

Yesterday, retired Navy Captain Joan Darrah wrote a letter to the chair of the Republican Party Platform Committee asking that he allow her to testify about why the Republican party should include planks in their official platform calling for the repeal of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act and support of the freedom to marry for all couples. The chair denied her request, and now Servicemembers Legal Defense Network is sponsoring a petition to support Capt. Darrah.

Democratic Party Platform Drafting Committee releases language of pro-marriage plank

Two weeks ago, the Democratic Party Platform Drafting Committee announced that the draft of the official party platform included language supporting the freedom to marry for same-sex couples and calling for the repeal of the anti-gay so-called Defense of Marriage Act. Today, the language of these LGBT-supportive planks were released.
Fifteen states request Supreme Court review of DOMA

Today, the state of Indiana and fourteen other states (AL, AK, AZ, CO, GA, ID, KS, MI, NE, OK, SC, SD, TX and VA) filed an amicus brief in Gill v. Office of Personnell Managaement, one of the most prominent court cases challenging the constitutionality of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act.

Richard Carey completes cross-country bike ride for Freedom to Marry

For nearly two months, 53-year-old Richard Carey has been biking across the country in order to raise money for Freedom to Marry and raise awareness about why marriage matters for all loving and committed couples. Yesterday, he dipped the rear wheel of his bicycle in the Atlantic Ocean in Maine, signaling the end of his 3,667-mile journey from Washington state to Maine.
