Double your donation to Washington United for Marriage
August 15, 2012
With less than 90 days remaining until Election Day, the campaign to Approve Referendum 74 and defend the freedom to marry in Washington state is in full swing. Between a $2.5 million donation from Amazon's CEO Jeff Bezos, key endorsements from major businesses and organizations throughout the state and thousands of face-to-face conversations with voters about why marriage matters to same-sex couples, it's been an action-packed summer for Washington United for Marriage!
The campaign is a strong operation and with the proper resources, we're confident that Washington voters will successfully defend the state's marriage law in November. With that in mind, Freedom to Marry announced a challenge to marriage supporters in Washington state: make a donation to the campaign between now and August 31st and we'll double it, up to $500,000.
Our matching gift to Washington United for Marriage will funnel from our Win More States Fund, which we established in March to raise funds to support campaigns in key battleground marriage states, including three upcoming ballot campaigns in Maine, Minnesota and Washington. Just this week, we announced that Freedom to Marry supporters and donors have contributed over $3 million to the Win More States Fund. These early funds will be crucial in securing early television advertising and public education airtime during what will inevitably be an expensive election cycle in each of the three states. We're committed to raising up to $10 million to ensure that the campaigns have the necessary resources to win.
